Maria Bonita meaning "Pretty Maria" was Maria Félix (April 8, 1914 - April 8, 2002), a Mexican actress, one of the icons of the golden era of the Cinema of Mexico.
She was commonly known, particularly in her later years, by the honorific La Doña. Begining her career in the 1940s La Dona became one of the biggest actresses in Mexico staring as the strong and sexy leading lady in nearly fifty movies. She continued her successful cinematographic career well into the early '70s.
Her iconic status in Mexico has been compared to that of Marilyn Monroe's in the United States, and her love life was as newsworthy as her film appearances.
